I am enjoying my new job.
I like it, that when I started, I was presented with my own desk space, and my own PC.
I didn't have to order in a new PC.
I like it that I had a Health and Safety induction.
And a Company induction.
And an IT induction.
And....so on, induction.
I like it that people are pleasant to me, and they try to involve me and introduce me to the various facets of the job.
And not the veiled, aggressive, and funnily defensive attitude that I experienced when I started my postdoc job.
I like it that my line manager cares, and that if she says she will find something out, she will do it for me. And not forget.
I appreciate that.
A lot of people might have expected me to be bemused, anxious, nervous, lost, about my new job, in a non-academic sector.
But I find it a challenge, in a positive way.
It's exciting for me, personally.
There are a lot of new things to learn.
It is a different world.
I am lucky, in that there are many people who have followed the path that I am on (i.e. from postdoc to the corporate world). A lot of people around me are empathetic, and supportive.
I appreciate that.
I think I am lucky, and I am grateful that I am doing what I am doing. And I am proud of myself for taking that plunge.
I have nothing to regret.
After all, you only live once.
